GENERAL COURSE OUTLINE

  • Log selection; planning and cutting the log to get the best yield in bowl blanks
  • Wood selection; straight grain or figured grain, use of natural edge
  • Preparing the bowl blank
  • Design elements
  • Tool use, sharpening techniques
  • Mounting the bowl blank - discuss the various options
  • Cutting techniques
  • Shaping the outside and inside of the bowl/platter
  • Finishing the rough-turned piece;  scraping-finishing techniques
  • Drying techniques
  • Marketing your product; what shapes will sell best ?

Attendee will work on  rough-turning 2 pieces;  bowl, platter or natural-edge

Workshop Cost:  $450.00 plus HST for all-day (7hr) workshop  or $250.00 plus HST for half-day (4hrs).  
Includes 2 bowl blanks (under 16"Dia.),  lunch & coffee, and workshop technical materials on a variety of
woodturning topics.


OTHER WORKSHOPS  & SERVICES @ $70.00/hr, Minimum 2 hrs.

  • BOWL CORING SYSTEM hands-on !
  • BOWL CORING SERVICE (bring your own blank);  (2 hr Minimum)
  • RE-SAWING, THICKNESS SANDING & FINISHING

WOODTURNING DEMO FOR PUBLIC & PRIVATE EVENTS:
Turning wet wood on a lathe creates a lot of interest & activity for your event.
Our demonstrators are professional, safety-trained individuals.
